Graduate Training And Development

The programme following a thorough Sembcorp Induction plan focuses on 3 key areas:

Career Development (years 1 to 4)

Management Development (years 2 to 3)

Leadership Development (years 3 to 4)

Throughout all these development areas you will be given continuous support from your immediate manager and a mentor who be aligned to you from day one. Your mentor will act as a sounding board for you for day to day issues and helping you to focus on your career development.

Career Development

Induction Plan

  • Site Induction/Plant Inductions
  • Safety, Health & Environment
  • Introduction to organisation, all areas of the business and the organisational systems

Professional Development

You will be provided with a framework to help you develop the technical capability and knowledge necessary to succeed. Professional development leading to Chartered status will be linked to the relevant institute e.g. IMechE or IChemE, with support via line manager, mentor and senior management team.

Business Specific

You will be placed in different areas of the business during the programme and will gain exposure to the main strands of the business.

Ongoing Personal Development

This will focus on two programmes of development for you, your development as a ‘manager’ and a ‘leader’.

Management Development

There are four specific events held away from your day to day work location, aimed at developing your management skills further. These are:

  • Effective Time and Priority Management
  • People Skills of Management
  • Delivering Powerful and Charismatic Presentations
  • Mastering the Art of Effective Communication

You will also be given the opportunity to gain a further qualification to gain a management qualification. This is an optional decision.

Leadership Development

There are a further four specific events which highlight leadership qualities and help you to strive towards developing these. These are:

  • Preparing for leadership
  • Strategic Techniques for Positively Influencing across the Organisation
  • Developing Professional Assertiveness and confidence
  • SembCorp Performance Management system

Most employers, Sembcorp included, are now looking for people who can genuinely lead their staff, department, projects and organisation to success – leadership skills are an extremely valuable commodity and need to be learnt (rarely are they naturally acquired).
