Kathryn's Profile

What’s the best thing for you about being on the scheme?

The training I receive as part of the scheme is first class – I am being sponsored to train as an accountant and gain membership of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), with all the required relevant work experience.

What skills is the scheme helping you develop?

I am gaining experience in many areas of finance from management accounting, statutory reporting and tax. In addition the scheme has helped me develop other transferable skills such as analytical, communication and general business skills.

What’s the biggest challenge you have faced since joining the scheme?

It has been a challenge to balance a heavy workload and meet tight reporting deadlines, with studying for external professional exams.

Have you achieved anything you’re particularly proud of since working here?

Passing all my accountancy exams so far, and especially being 5th in the country for one of them.

How would you like to see your career developing over the next few years – and where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?

Being a qualified accountant and taking on more responsibility.

Briefly describe the culture at SCU.

Some of the words I would use to describe the culture at SCU are team working, customer focused, hard working and driven.

Has SCU met with your expectations?

SCU is a far more complex business than I expected, with several diverse business areas. However this makes working here more interesting and varied than I expected, with the opportunity to gain a wider experience.

What responsibility have you enjoyed on the scheme?

Responsibility for much of the reporting and disclosures we need to make to SCU’s Singapore parent on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis. As part of this role I have been involved in the replacement of the current financial reporting package, which even included a trip to Singapore!
