By now you will have probably viewed all the data on our graduate scheme and you may have a few further questions you would like to ask. Below are some responses to some of the most common questions we get asked. Hopefully if your questions are among them, it may help eliminate some of your concerns or worries, however if you still have a further question then please e-mail graduates@sembutilities.co.uk and we will respond to your query as soon as possible.
What qualifications do I need?
All graduate positions require candidates to have a degree in the appropriate discipline – each advert will specify what is required.
Do I need to have graduated very recently to apply?
No.
How long is the graduate programme?
The graduate programme is generally for two years, during which time you will follow a detailed development programme (see the
overview of the graduate scheme
for more information).
Will I get an opportunity to travel?
As part of our graduate programme it is highly possible that you may be given the chance to spend some of your initial two years with the company working in Singapore with our parent company.
What happens if I need to relocate?
Relocation costs are not a problem. We will help you in the same way as we help all our employees who need to relocate – please refer to the
Compensation and Benefits section, relocation package.
Do I already need to have a work permit?
Yes, we require any applicants to already have a work permit in place before they apply for a role with us.
What will the salary be?
The current graduate salary for all roles is £20,000 up to £25,500 per annum, with structured increments throughout the graduate period.
Once you have successfully completed your second year, you will join the current market salary structure for your role and steps will be put in place to move you to the appropriate salary.
We offer a
competitive salary and benefits
package to successful candidates.
If I am struggling with completing the application form is there someone who can help?
As you complete the application form, there is a ‘help’ button where you will be able to get more information. If you continue to struggle, you can save the data you have completed so far and contact us at graduates@sembutilities.co.uk.
What are the weekly hours of work?
The weekly hours of work for most parts of the business are 41hours per week, with a paid lunch break each day of 40 minutes. We also operate a flexible working programme, please refer to the Worklife Balance section for more information on this.
Do I get help if I continue to study?
You most certainly do.
Sembcorp UK employs a large number of graduates in a wide range of disciplines with professional career development as part of their employment.
If your continuous studies are in an area we feel is beneficial to both you as an employee and the company then we may fund your development and also give you time off to study. We can also help with the purchase of books and other equipment you may need to help you achieve your goal. We actively encourage our graduates to progress to the qualification of Chartered status via the appropriate Institute.
Even though you are not currently recruiting into the discipline I have, is it worth applying and will you keep my application on file?
It is definitely worth applying, even though you may not see a role that you feel is immediately suitable for you. We will register your interest and contact you if a role becomes suitable in the near future that you may be interested in.
