Sembcorp UK is at the forefront of the most exciting energy initiatives driven by the mankind’s desire to reduce carbon emissions. A new 33MW biomass power station – Wilton 10 – opened in December 2007. Together with coal fired Cogeneration plants, a gas turbine and a long standing track record of burning alternative fuels, the existing 200MW power station is one of the most diverse and technically challenging plants in the world. The business is a leading player in Carbon Trading and Climate Change Levy markets and is regularly engaged in consultation by government over new environmental & energy related legislation.
The company is based at Wilton in the North East on one of the largest Petrochemical sites in Europe. The core business is to supply steam and power along with a wide range of essential support services. The current site residents include a number of Europe’s largest chemical companies although the site is now being marketed as a “Green Park” with a number of large recycling and related renewable industries showing significant interest.
The company employs more than 500 people and is a subsidiary of the Singapore-based Sembcorp Industries, one of Asia’s foremost engineering services groups, which provides integrated utilities and environmental management services to industrial customers in Singapore and the Far East.
With total assets of almost S$7 billion and 11,000 staff, more than half of whom have professional engineering and technical qualifications, Sembcorp Industries is keen to see its businesses grow through the skills and talents of its people.
Sembcorp UK has ambitious plans for growth in the UK and Europe and has recently attracted substantial new investment to the Wilton International site where it owns most of the development land.
